Marcie Vu and Coddy Johnson join Scopely Board of Directors

Today, we are incredibly proud to announce the appointment of Marcie Vu and Coddy Johnson to the Scopely Board of Directors.

Both of these seasoned professionals have set themselves apart as leaders in their respective fields: Marcie, as a highly respected advisor to some of the most well-known consumer technology companies (Amazon, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, to name a few), specifically counseling companies through many large-scale transactions, and Coddy, as an innovator who has pushed the global games business forward during his many years at Activision Blizzard.

These two executives will each add new unique perspectives to the Scopely Board, cheering us on and challenging us as we usher in the next phase of our company’s growth. Our Scopely future is brighter than ever with Marcie and Coddy in our corner.

Meet Marcie

With proven experience providing strategic and financial advice to global technology leaders, Marcie will be an invaluable asset to Scopely. As a trusted advisor, her wealth of expertise in growing and scaling businesses will be instrumental in helping us achieve the ambitious goals we have set for Scopely. She is a true force to be reckoned with.

With more than 20 years under her belt in investment banking, we first met Marcie during her tenure as the Head of the Consumer Technology Group at Qatalyst Partners, a technology-focused M&A advisory investment bank. Prior to Qatalyst, she served as the Head of Consumer Internet Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley for more than a decade and, before that, worked in mobile and instant messenger product management at Yahoo!. Marcie also currently serves as a member of the board of ThredUP (Nasdaq: TDUP), one of the largest resale platforms for women’s and kids’ apparel, shoes and accessories.

Throughout her career, Marcie has partnered with hundreds of clients to advise on transactions with an aggregate value of more than $100 billion. Her work has helped to scale countless companies; she’s advised on the IPOs of Alibaba.com, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and Zynga, among others, and on mergers and acquisitions, including Admob’s sale to Google, Amazon’s acquisition of Quidsi, CNET’s sale to CBS, Electronic Arts’ acquisition of JAMDAT Mobile, Honey’s sale to PayPal, LinkedIn’s sale to Microsoft, and many, many more.

We asked Marcie why she chose to join the Scopely Board, and here’s what she said:

I’m delighted to partner with Walter, Javier, Tim, and the team.”

Marcie holds a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Meet Coddy

With deep games industry experience and a legacy of transformative leadership across multiple industries, Coddy will be an essential partner during the next phase of our journey. For more than a decade, Coddy helped lead gaming giant Activision Blizzard in entertaining hundreds of millions of players, supporting thousands of employees, and bringing multiple beloved franchises to life. As the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, he ultimately drove over $8 billion in annual revenue for the business across console, PC, and mobile.

Coddy first joined Activision in 2008 as Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff to the CEO. Quickly working up the ranks, he served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Studios and then Chief Financial Officer and Head of Operations, before leaving the company to serve as the Chief Operating Officer of edtech leader AltSchool. In 2017, he returned to Activision Blizzard as President and COO with company-wide oversight and led the company’s growth transition into free-to-play and mobile before retiring in March 2020. Prior to Activision Blizzard, Coddy helped build and lead two presidential campaigns and worked as an advisor in the White House. Coddy also serves on the board of the Environmental Defense Fund, the nation’s largest conservation group working to combat climate change, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable prosperity.

When asked why he chose to join Scopely’s board, Coddy said,

“I have long admired Scopely’s leadership and products, and I am honored to join them today as a Board member. Their commitment to their player communities, their track record of building deeply immersive experiences, and their success in building global franchises for millions of players points to a bright future for growth, impact, and industry leadership. Their passion engenders immense creativity, an ambitious and adventurous culture, and business excellence. It is a pleasure to join Walter, Javier, and Tim and the rest of the talented Scopely team for their next stage of growth.”

Coddy holds a B.A. in Ethics, Politics and Economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, graduating with honors as an Arjay Miller Scholar.
