With the MONOPOLY GO! X The Simpsons crossover season in full swing, we’re sharing some of our favorite Easter Eggs hidden across the Boards of Springfield.
Inspired by a deep love for The Simpsons and created in close partnership with The Simpsons creative team, every corner is packed with deep cut references, surprising details and hidden nods for fans to discover.
How many of these did you spot?
Sticker SetsThe team devoted dedicated sets to some of the most iconic scenes in the show’s history, including the
Steamed Hams scene from “22 Short Films About Springfield.” Remember: Principal Skinner may be an odd fellow, but he steams a good ham.
Each one of the items seen in the
Property of Ned Flanders set is an item from the show that has been borrowed by Homer over the years
In the
Old School Rivals set, there’s a direct reference to a classic MONOPOLY! community chest card where you can see Mr. Monopoly winning second place in a beauty contest. Of course, Mr. Burns wins first with an homage to Marilyn Monroe.
In the
Friends & Family set, Reverend Lovejoy can be spotted with his toy trains from the “In Marge We Trust” episode as a nod to the classic railroads in MONOPOLY!
Sharp-eyed Tycoons will also spot
Gerald making a cameo in the jail the
Maggie’s Big Adventure set.
CosmeticsMalibu Stacy has two sets of dice in game, including one with a certain highly coveted accessory — her sunhat. She’s just like regular Malibu Stacy except, as Smithers points out, “she’s got a new hat!”
Our teams were also passionate about making a token to represent
Frostillicus — AKA Frozen Jasper. Fans will remember in the episode “Lisa the Simpson” episode, Jasper Beardsley freezes himself inside the Kwik-E-Mart to see the future. He thaws out soon after, but during his stay in the freezer, Apu dresses him as a Viking and calls him “Frostillicus” to drum up business.
The fender of the Pink Sedan token is dented on the left hand side, just like in the show.
Seasonal BoardsIn the Springfield Board, you can find Big Butt Skinner floating around from the “Bart’s Comet” episode. A labor of love!
Keep an eye out for a member of the
Egg Council, from “Homer The Great,” sneaking around the Power Plant Board.
In the backyard of the Evergreen Terrace Board, players can build out the home of the
Screamapillar, an adorably annoying creature Homer encounters in “Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo.” Screamapillar fans will notice he also has his own sticker and an Emoji.
In the roll view of the Simpsons Home Board, fans can see Kirk Van Houten’s dignity drawing from “A Milhouse Divided”, Funzo from “Grift of the Magi” and, in the basement, the Olmec head gifted to the family by Mr. Burns in the season two finale “Blood Feud.”
LeaguesIn leagues, we have references to the Springfield Tire Fire, Bitey the Opossum and Lyle Langley’s hat from “Marge vs. the Monorail.” There's nothing on earth like a genuine, bonafide
electrified six-car monorail!
Bobo, Mr. Burns’ beloved ratty old teddy, can also be seen in Maggie’s train car.
In Marge’s car, her fancy pink suit from “Scenes from a Class Struggle in Springfield” can be spotted alongside the painting of Homer in his underwear for which Marge wins first prize in an art contest.
Players who make it to the last car will see some of Springfield’s most luxurious items, including the Gummy Venus de Milo, the menu from The Gilded Truffle and the infamous trillion-dollar bill.
Board ThemingAll of the Board tiles have been arranged so Springfield locations correspond to the value of the properties.
The team also has added more show references to the game’s iconography. For instance, Homer’s ridiculous Bear Patrol Tax replaces Luxury Tax; Homer dressed as the Sanitation Commissioner represents utilities; and of course, we have the
Springfield Monorail in place of the Railroads.
RacersWe have glowing Mr. Burns as a citizen in “Springfield Racers” coming out of the forest on the Board. Be on the lookout since he’s bringing love. Don’t let him get away!
All of the citizens for Springfield Racers are wearing outfits that reference something in the show, from
Poochie to Homer’s Muumuu.
The Overload feature in this race is called “Stone of Shame” and is a direct reference from the “Homer the Great” episode where Homer has to wear a rock chained around his neck as punishment for offending the elusive Stonecutters society.
TreasuresIn Mr. Burns’ Treasures, eagle-eyed Tycoons can spot Smithers tied up inside the grandfather clock.
The train in one of the scenes from Mr. Burns’ manor is a direct reference to the “Burns’ Heir” episode.
Each treasure a Tycoon can unearth in Burns’ Treasures is from a specific Simpsons’ episode featuring Mr. Burns, including his autobiography “Will There Ever Be a Rainbow?” and the vest from “See My Vest,” one of the show’s most popular musical numbers.
In Bart’s Treasures, Sofia is dressed as
Otto Mann with a schoolbus-inspired plane.
Just as in the other Treasures event, each treasure of Bart’s is a direct reference from the show, including Bart’s slingshot, skateboard, and a collection of
Radioactive Man comics.
Simpsons RunIn the Simpsons’ run minigame, fans may spot some animation Easter eggs, including Marge doing the Krump dance, popularized in memes.
