Scopelean Spotlight: Mouna Ferre

For this Scopelean Spotlight, we continue celebrating Women’s History Month by recognizing the awesome women who make Scopely the exceptional company that it is.

Say hello (or bonjour!) to Mouna.

Games are not just about the challenge of winning, but people are also inspired by the design and beauty of the games that are created. There is no better person to talk about that than Mouna Ferre, Vice President & Head of Flamed, a Scopely Creative Agency. Mouna talked to us about her role at Scopely, some of the many projects she is working on and gave some sound advice that was given to her. Read on to learn more!

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.

I grew up in France, with Tunisian parents and have had the opportunity to live and travel to various parts of the world during my career. Currently, I am settled in Barcelona and have been heading Scopely's in-house creative agency, Flamed, for the past three and a half years. In my role, I am responsible for delivering marketing creatives that drive installs and engage daily active users. Working on more than 15 different games concurrently, I ensure that the team comprehends the business requirements and the games thoroughly to bring creative ideas to life that yield significant outcomes.

What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?

Currently, I am leading the transformation of my team, which has traditionally focused on User Acquisition, towards a more versatile and adaptable team that can meet the evolving marketing landscape. Over time, we have expanded our expertise in Unreal, TikTok and integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into our processes. We have also developed our skills in various areas such as live actions, 3D modeling, animation, illustration and brand building, to better collaborate with our marketing and product teams and take on a diversity of projects. In addition, we are actively exploring ways to automate repetitive tasks to increase our efficiency and dedicate more time to tasks that add genuine value.

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?

As someone who has spent the last 15 years working in the gaming industry, I have often found myself as a minority in the workplace, both as a female and because of my origins. This type of experience has emphasized even more the importance of diversity to me. Diversity is not only about opening ourselves up to new perspectives, but also about providing equal opportunities for all and creating a positive work environment where everyone feels valued and welcomed no matter their ethnicity or gender.

Also, I strongly believe that diversity is essential to allow creativity to flourish fully. Different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives can lead to more innovative ideas and solutions. So, promoting diversity and inclusivity is not only a nice thing to do, but it also drives better results for our projects while making our employees happier.

Which Scopely culture tenet are you the most passionate about?

"ITERATE TO GREATNESS" deeply resonates with me as it reflects the way I have approached life so far. I have always believed in trying things, making mistakes, learning from them, and improving my approach until I achieve better outcomes. This is a philosophy that I have not only instilled to the teams I have driven, but also to my children, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in order to achieve any desired results in life. With dedication and continuous effort, anything is possible, and anyone can become the best in any area they choose to be.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

The best piece of advice I received early on in my career was to not only strive for excellence, but also ensure that my achievements were known to others. As a reserved person back then, I tended to shy away from the spotlight. While we may assume that our actions are visible, the truth is that promoting our successes is often the most effective way to be recognized for our efforts. Ever since, I put that advice into practice, and that is when the magic started happening.

What was the last good book you read?

I recently finished reading Everything is #@%!ed: A Book About Hope by Mark Manson. The book emphasizes that as humans, we tend to view things through a negative lens and make excuses for our unhappiness. Manson suggests that by shifting our perspective, we can discover the beauty that surrounds us, better cope with adversity and achieve personal growth. I find this book very inspiring. A nice reminder, that the glass is actually half full.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

After thinking it over for a while, I have come to realize that my motivation in my career is not only driven by my passion for the job, but also by the opportunity to share that passion with others. Working at Scopely has allowed me to do just that, and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. It is a fantastic experience to know that I am able to inspire and have a positive impact on others through my work, and that they in turn can have an impact on mine.
