Scopelean Spotlight: Michelle Dysangco

We continue to recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI), honoring the contributions Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans have made to the history and culture of the United States. We also celebrate our exceptional members of the AAPI community here at Scopely and elevate their voices.

Say “hello” to Michelle.

Providing a positive player experience is so important, but what does it take to build a solid support organization across all of Scopely’s games? Michelle Dysangco has the answers. Read on below to learn more about what Michelle does at Scopely, her journey from the Bay Area to SoCal, and why she’s listening to all things Whitney Houston!

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.

Hi there! I'm Michelle Dysangco, Vice President, Player Experience working out of the Culver City Hub. I joined Scopely three years ago, through the FoxNext (now Boundless Entertainment) acquisition. I moved from the Bay Area to SoCal five years ago, and have no regrets. SoCal, hands down, has the best beaches and food, which I love equally. Aside from my love for the beach and food, I have taken on a new hobby recently…watching the hummingbirds in my yard. I was so inspired, I bought bird feeders to put around my yard so I can sit near my window whenever I get a chance and enjoy their beauty and wonder up close.

What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?

I am responsible for managing and leading the support organization for all live games and in-development games at Scopely. My primary focus is to build and optimize a successful support organization across all Scopely games, with a strong emphasis on key areas that are essential in providing excellent and seamless customer service for our players. These areas include customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and robust systems and tools. My team is constantly looking for ways to iterate and improve the support we provide for our players. Our goal is to ensure that we have a competitive advantage in the industry and continue to retain and engage our players.

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?

Being a woman of Filipino American descent who has had a fortunate career in gaming, I place great importance on the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion. Having spent many years in the gaming industry, I have seen a lack of representation for Filipino American women in leadership positions. Despite the Filipino community's considerable presence in the tech sector, there is still much ground to cover in enhancing DEI initiatives for Filipino Americans, especially women. In an ideal world, individuals from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities would receive equal opportunities and fair treatment.

Which Scopely culture tenet are you the most passionate about?

Currently, the one that resonates with me is Embrace the Adventure. During my time at Scopely, I've experienced constant change - some positive and some more challenging. When I am presented with these challenges, Embrace the Adventure reminds me to embrace the uncertainty and recognize that while there is no way for me to predict the outcome of every situation, taking risks can lead to great rewards. It also means being willing to fail and learn from my mistakes, which is a valuable tool for growth and self-improvement. Embracing the adventure also means not looking back, but instead looking forward and being open-minded, considering new ideas and perspectives to continue to work towards positive outcomes.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

I actually received this advice from my mentor recently, and it helped me tremendously. "Don't overthink this...focus on the present moment." To me, that translates to, gain clarity on what problem you are trying to solve, and move on. Whether you have to make a big or small decision, overthinking introduces unneeded stress and anxiety, it can also be debilitating at times, and can prevent you from making the right decision, and moving forward.

What song are you currently listening to on repeat?

I recently watched "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody" on Netflix, and the movie had me downloading all of her songs which are now on repeat during my commute to the office.
