Say "hello" to Juliana.
Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
My name is Juliana, I work at the Culver City hub as a lead producer for “WWE Champions,” focusing on Live Operations. I have been blessed to be a part of Scopely for close to six years. I was originally brought on to help launch and manage the Live Operations team for “Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem” and moved over to help the “WWE Champions” team around two years ago. I have been in the game industry for close to 20 years, starting my career in the Philippines and moving back to California in 2007.
How would you describe Scopely's culture?
When someone asks me about Scopely's culture, player experience always comes to mind. As a part of the Scopely family, I truly feel like this has been one of the best work experiences of my career. I feel motivated to work, safe and able to be myself, and an opportunity to focus on my personal growth. I also appreciate the amount of focus the company instills in player experience and creating fun, exciting and engaging experiences for our players. I am happy to be a part of Scopely, and I hope to continue here as long as possible.
Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
CARE DEEPLY. This is the tenet that I am most passionate about, as it is also important to me in my personal life. I care deeply about my team and their career growth, and I also feel that from the leadership, my manager and general manager. I care deeply about our player experience and making sure that our game continues to be one of the best WWE games available today. I also believe Scopely as a whole cares deeply about my experience as a member of the Scopely community.
What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
Diversity, to me, means the opportunity to be myself, feel safe and be supported. Diversity is being able to work with people who accept, respect and celebrate each other's differences without prejudice; to be given opportunities based on skills and to be able to express myself genuinely without fear.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
I've received so much great advice over the years, but the best piece of advice that I use daily is to "Live your purpose" and the Japanese concept of “Ikigai.” It really helps me stay focused on the present, informs my decisions, gives me space to reflect on myself, gives me perspective and allows me to achieve peace of mind.
What is your favorite initiative, experience or program at Scopely?
I appreciate Scopely's focus on global diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as the People Business Partner team. It is because of these programs and initiatives that I felt safe and comfortable coming out in 2018. The team supported changing my name and email across the company, and I felt wide acceptance from multiple teams and peers. I am thankful for the support and happy that I can be myself each day at work.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I really do enjoy my time at Scopely and appreciate the safety and space to be my authentic self. I am thankful for the opportunities to continue my career growth, and I feel like this has been one of the best experiences of my career.
