In May, we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI). We honor and celebrate the contributions Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans have made to the history and culture of the United States via our educational resources from our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team. We also want to celebrate our exceptional members of the AAPI community here at Scopely and elevate their voices.
Say “hello” to Ellie.
Some of Scopely’s many successes stem from the strategic partnerships that are created. Curious about what strategic partnerships are all about? Ellie Zhu is the person to talk to. Read on below to learn more about who Ellie is, what her role entails, and why she’s a fan of crime and mystery television shows!
Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
Hi, I'm Ellie Zhu, Senior Manager of Strategic Partnerships based out of the Culver City Hub. I've been with Scopely just over two years now, managing all things Android and Google. I've been a gamer since I was three-years-old (thanks to my Dad for the Super Nintendo!), so I'm incredibly fortunate to have a career in games, where I get to work across a multitude of titles, both live and in-development!
What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?
I'm currently working with our games teams to reach more players through in-game events and offers. I work closely with our platform partners to understand their strategy for a given campaign and relay best practices to our internal teams. It's important that I understand both internal and external goals so that we can align on wins for both sides.
What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
To me, diversity in gaming is when we break all the stereotypes of who or what a gamer is. Anyone, anywhere can be a gamer and enjoy all types of games regardless of the platform. I've definitely felt judged growing up for playing games and subsequently for choosing a career in games, but I love what I do and I welcome anyone with the same passion to pursue the dream!
Which Scopely culture tenet are you the most passionate about?
PLAY TO WIN. I love that this is a Scopely tenet, because it's always one I've lived by. Whether it be academics, sports, games, or career, if I'm putting time into it, I want to be the best. Hence, 'Play to Win'. I'm passionate about the industry I'm in, the team I'm on, and the work that I do and as such I strive to be a go-to resource and a subject matter expert.
What advice would you give to someone working in your field?
The best piece of advice I've received was, "Be cognizant of other people’s time." This has helped me approach people with a purpose. Be direct, but succinct. People should understand the “what” and the “why” fairly quickly.
What's the last good movie/show you watched?
I'm currently on my third rewatch of “Psych,” the TV show. I'm big on crime and mystery shows and “Psych” pairs it along with comedy. It's a great way for me to end the work day and decompress.
Anything else to add?
I'm an introvert with a career in partnerships! I’m always happy to connect and meet new people who are working in or playing games!
