For our next batch of Scopelean Spotlights, we are celebrating leaders from our five Employee Resource Groups (ERG): Women @Scopely, Early Careers @Scopely, Pride @Scopely, Black @Scopely, Mind Matters @Scopely.
Meet Dan McGreevy, senior people operations specialist for our Ireland-based employees and leader of our Mind Matters @Scopely ERG.
Say "hello" to Dan.
Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
I am a senior people operations specialist for our Ireland-based employees, although I am now based remotely in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been with Scopely for almost four and a half years, having originally joined in Dublin around the time of the DIGIT acquisition in 2019. I am also part of our DE&I council and a leader of our Mind Matters @Scopely ERG.
What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?
One of the projects I am currently working on is creating a Manager Guide for managers with employees based in Ireland. Whilst I will always be available to support and answer any questions, this guide will act as a first point of reference, including a synopsis of what managers should be aware of when hiring in Ireland, as well as an overview of some of our local policies and procedures. This will be especially beneficial for those who are managing across a number of locations.
What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
To me, diversity in gaming is about finding something or someone you can resonate with in a game. Whether that be a character that you feel like visually represents you, or a storyline that you can relate to. Because any form of media can play a major role in helping someone recognise their identity.
Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
CARE DEEPLY. Because with being part of the People Team, everything I do is for the betterment of our people and, ultimately, the company. I've always been a caring person so that naturally fed into my role and caring about the people I work with and the quality of the work I produce.
What advice would you give to someone working in your field?
A bit of practical advice I wish I had taken on board early in my career is making a lot of notes rather than relying on information being stored in my head. For example, creating step-by-step process documents. I wish I learned earlier to do this as I went along, rather than trying to put together several documents later down the line.
What's the last good movie/show you watched?
I am currently listening to Troye Sivan's new album on repeat. I have been an early fan of Troye's since his YouTube days and have loved every piece of music he has released since, I am particularly loving the freedom and maturity of his new album. Standouts for me are "What's The Time Where You Are?" and "Got Me Started."
