Scopelean Spotlight: Carlos Rasche

We continue celebrating our outstanding leaders within our five Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): Women @Scopely; Early Careers @Scopely; Pride @Scopely; Black @Scopely; and Mind Matters @Scopely.

Meet Carlos Rasche, software engineer for Playgami, the Scopely Platform, and one of the leaders of our Early Careers @ Scopely ERG.

Say "hello" to Carlos.

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
I'm Carlos Rasche, a software engineer based in Barcelona, and I joined Scopely in September 2022. I spent my first six months doing an internship at Scopely and got the chance to become a full-time employee in March 2023. I'm currently working as a software engineer on the DevOps & Security team at Playgami.

What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?
I am working on many things! My main job is taking care of the pipelines and runtime environment for all Playgami applications. I am currently working on improving how the networking infrastructure is defined, and renewing authentication tokens for one of our platforms. But this is still only a part of it. I am also working on building strong relationships with people at work (I try to get to know everyone in the office) and creating a fun and welcoming environment for everyone around me. This last one might not be meaningful to some people, but I think that the combination of both sides is what allows me and the people on my team to fully enjoy what we do and go further in our jobs.

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
Diversity in our games means having accurate representation of all backgrounds and identities within our fictional characters and game protagonists. To me, this could not be achieved without having a group of diverse and talented people working on them, so it makes sense to pursue having a team that fulfills these characteristics. In general, I believe that a diverse group of people will almost always produce a better outcome than a group that isn't, and the same applies to the industry we work in.

Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
EMBRACE THE ADVENTURE. I am a firm believer that anyone can and should take on everything that comes their way and aspire to live life as an adventure. I especially like it because it can be applied to anything in or outside of work, and that makes it, in my opinion, a good principle to live by. In an adventure, especially in gaming, progress and leveling up are not only a choice, but almost an obligation. I am continuously improving on anything that I can. In my case, I embraced the adventure of becoming an ERG leader a few months back, and it has been great so far!

What advice would you give to someone working in your field?
The best piece of advice I would give to someone working in my field is the same advice that was once given to me and that I try to follow, which is based on failing. It says:

Fail Frequently
Fail Fast
Fail Forward

By following these three principles, you can boost your progress, especially if you are surrounded by a team of supportive individuals who can accelerate the comebacks associated with any failure. This applies especially to tech-related positions, where learning and failing are part of the job, and owning your outcomes even when things go wrong is an essential skill to have.

What song are you currently listening to on repeat?
"Caure no feia mal" by Joan Dausà (which translates to "Falling didn't hurt") is a song that I've literally been listening to on repeat because it's the only song I play when I'm running. I've recently been training for my first half-marathon, which I completed! I always say that this one doesn't technically count because it's just a loop playing in the background to keep me focused while running. The song I've been actively listening to the most is "Projector" by EDEN. He is one of my favorite artists of all time, and for some reason, I've found myself listening to this song more often than others. I try to change things up quite a bit, so feel free to reach out if you want music recommendations or have any for me!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I want to thank Patricia Quintanilla and Sara Sanchez for being amazing co-leads because all the great things happening in Barcelona with the Early Careers ERG are thanks to the work that the three of us put in, not just me!
