Say "hello" to Roger.
Tell us about yourself and your day-to-day responsibilities at Scopely.
Hi! I'm Roger Vallès, Head of Operations for New Platforms at Scopely for our game, “Stumble Guys.” I'm based in Barcelona, and I've been part of Scopely for the last 5 years. And now I am leading the new platforms team.
Our team is all about taking the success of “Stumble Guys” from mobile to console and other platforms. We're on a mission to craft new experiences for our players and explore exciting business opportunities for our franchise.
What skills and qualifications are essential for success in this career?
Well, it really depends on the role, but for the gaming industry in general, having an adaptive mindset is key. The gaming world is super fast-paced, and you've got to be flexible, agile, and ready to adapt to overcome the challenges that come your way.
Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
EMBRACE THE ADVENTURE. Every new project at Scopely is an adventure, and we thrive on new challenges. In my career here, I've taken so many missions, from opening a studio in Barcelona, working in production, transitioning to operations, and now focusing on bringing “Stumble Guys” to consoles—it's been a wild ride!
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in your role?
Get ready to embrace mistakes because that's how we learn. Errors are a natural part of being human, and as long as we take lessons from them, we will be on the right track.
What do you find most fulfilling about your career at Scopely?
I would say the opportunity to work with such talented people. People at Scopely come from different backgrounds with different expertise and they all share a passion for game making.
What resources would you recommend for someone starting out?
More than any books, or podcasts, I would recommend in-person events, meetups, and conferences. Networking with industry professionals is a goldmine of knowledge. You'll gain valuable insights from these connections, and they can steer you in the right direction based on your skills and interests.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Just a shout out to the New Platforms team and everyone on the “Stumble Guys” team. Launching on console wouldn't be possible without your incredible effort and day-to-day commitment. Kudos to you all for helping us become a forever franchise!
