Scopelean Spotlight: Candyse Frazier

March is Women’s History Month, where we recognize and celebrate the outstanding women who have made significant contributions not only in the U.S., but also around the world. At Scopely, we want to do the same thing and highlight some of the awesome women who make Scopely the exceptional company that it is.

Say hello to Candyse.

What does it take to ensure that employees are happy and excited coming to work every day, whether in-person or virtual? Your best bet is to ask Candyse Frazier, Vice President, Global People Solutions & Experience. Candyse gave us a little insight into what she does at Scopely, some of the projects she is working on and gave her thoughts on diversity in gaming. Read on to learn more!

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
Hi! I am Scopely's Vice President of Global People Solutions & Experience. I work out of our Culver City hub and my one year anniversary is coming up in April. My team includes several centers of excellence (People Operations, Real Estate & Facilities, Project Management and Experience & Engagement), so I get to work on a lot of cool projects with a wide reaching impact and partner with folks across the entire business.

What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?
While our project list is extensive, I am particularly excited about a number of projects right now, including: How We Work – designing and executing a hybrid model of intentional and meaningful in-person and virtual work to drive performance and meaningful experiences. Workday -- implementing an HR tool designed to create a single source of truth for global employee data and help us scale all global people processes. Onboarding – helping new hires start out on day one with the right tools, resources and support so they are set up for success right away. Rewards & Recognition – creating programs and tools to help us drive a culture of year-round celebration of our teams.

I am also the executive sponsor of our newly-launched Black @ Scopely Employee Resource Group (ERG). I am really looking forward to building out programs with our amazing ERG leaders over the coming months!

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
To me, diversity in gaming means having the teams who make games reflect the people who love and play those games. Gaming is known for its groundbreaking innovation and innovation happens at intersections. The more diverse the teams, the better the game and the better experience is for our players. Game makers also have an opportunity to imagine new worlds and build communities that focus on bringing people together – both internally and externally. And it is incumbent upon us to seize that opportunity in every way possible.

Which Scopely culture tenet are you the most passionate about?
ITERATE TO GREATNESS” was the first tenet I personally connected to. It helps me remember to hold space for gratitude for where I am today, while still being ambitious and forward thinking for the greatness I know myself, my team, and all of Scopely are capable of. If I can choose a second tenet, I would say “PLAY TO WIN.” This speaks to having a solutions-oriented attitude and mindset ('Solutions' is literally in my team name!), but I also interpret this to mean that 'play' is a fundamental part of winning. I love being on a team that plays together in order to win together.

What was the last good book you read?
Our Chief Operating Officer, Eunice Lee, led a book club with our People Leadership and Senior Executive teams featuring "When Women Lead" by Julia Boorstin. What I love most about this book is it focuses on data and provides irrefutable evidence on the impact of women in the workplace. Some people often frame "diversity" as a moral imperative, but do not always understand it is actually more of a business imperative that could make a difference in your company's survival, longevity and ultimate legacy and impact.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Any time someone asks me why I chose to work at Scopely, I always say it is because of the people. I feel incredibly fortunate to have an inspirational leader I can look up to and learn from, a group of peers on the Operations Leadership team who challenge me and make me laugh every single day and most importantly, I really adore my team. The best part of my day is spending time with the People Solutions team -- everything from solving problems together, celebrating our wins, sharing inside jokes or having moments of connection and vulnerability, my team is such an incredible source of joy and inspiration. They teach me something new every day and I am so deeply thankful to them for embracing this adventure with me.
