Scopelean Spotlight: Alexis Evans

For our next batch of our Scopelean Spotlight, we are celebrating leaders from our five Employee Resource Groups (ERG): Women @Scopely, Early Careers @Scopely, Pride @Scopely, Black @Scopely, Mind Matters @Scopely.

Meet Alexis Evans, our director of corporate brand & communications. She is based out of the Culver hub and is a leader for our Black @Scopely ERG.

Say "hello" to Alexis.

Tell us a little about yourself and your journey at Scopely.
Oh hello! I’m Alexis and I’ve been at Scopely for over a year and a half, having started on Valentine’s Day 2022. I’m on the corporate brand & communications team and oversee the internal comms side of things. So if you’ve ever written anything that needed to go out to the entire company, you’ve more than likely had to work with me.

What are you currently working on and how does your work impact the company?
One of the things we’re working on is developing policies to ensure communication, design asks and speaking opportunity requests are handled efficiently. Scopely is a growing company and for the comms and brand team, it is important to us to not only help in the requests that come in, but to also ensure that we are given all of the information we need in order to assist in a timely manner.

What does diversity in gaming mean to you?
Diversity in gaming means not only seeing characters within the actual games who represent all that this world is about, not just in the games themselves but at the companies behind those games as well. There is something to be said when you see people who look like you doing great things!

Which Scopely culture tenet resonates most with you?
ITERATE TO GREATNESS. I’ve been in the communications world for a while and there’s never a dull moment. There are twists and turns, last minute requests, and a lot of juggling that happens. Fortunately I’m part of an amazing team and I have the opportunity to learn some of their tips and tricks. The support that I have from my team and the ability to run projects on my own allows me to evolve as a professional and continue to iterate to greatness.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Be true to yourself and be kind. I’m teaching this to my 4 and a half year old and while it may sound so elementary, I don’t think you’re ever too mature to hear it again. Being kind is pretty self-explanatory. You never know what people are going through, what’s happening in their world, what’s on their plate. From my perspective, being kind to those around you can truly take you a long way. Being true to yourself is the idea of never forgetting who you are. It’s great to evolve and grow, but always remember who you are and where you come from.

What's the last good movie/show you watched?
I watched “Elemental” on Disney+ a couple of weeks back and it’s become one of my favorite movies. There are quite a few storylines and important messages that are highlighted throughout the film. It’s a story about self-realization, the romance between two “elements” that technically shouldn’t be together and the pressure of having generational and ethnic expectations. It’s cute and quite good.
