How Scopely’s 'MARVEL Strike Force' brought to life Eclipse, an all-new original character

A new force is rising in “MARVEL Strike Force,” and she arrives with the power of the moon itself.

Introducing Eclipse — the latest original Marvel character built by the team at Scopely to join “MARVEL Strike Force.” More than just a new addition to the roster, Eclipse represents a major creative milestone: an original hero in Marvel canon, representing Mexican culture, and brought to life through a blend of storytelling and artistry.

Behind the scenes, bringing Eclipse to life was deeply meaningful to the creative and development team. She’s the fifth “MARVEL Strike Force” original character to join the Marvel Universe, a rare opportunity that carries excitement and a sense of responsibility.

“My supervisor told me that she was the first female Mexican character in the game,” says Isabel Arauz, a 3D Character Artist for MARVEL Strike Force. “And honestly, it was very exciting for me, since I am also a Mexican woman.”

Eclipse has a gameplay style rooted in Mayan mythology and built around strategic depth. Her gameplay abilities include around three lunar phases — Crescent Moon, New Moon and Full Moon — each one shifting the flow of battle.

Before she was Eclipse, she was Maria Marquez, an intrepid archaeologist driven to uncover a lost temple dedicated to the Mayan moon goddess, Ixchel. When she found it, she was chosen as Ixchel’s avatar, gaining powerful abilities tied to protection, healing and the phases of the moon.

Players can unlock and power up Eclipse through two limited-time events — Eclipse Lost, which grants her Yellow Stars, and Eclipse Found, where players can earn her Red Stars and a Diamond upgrade.
